Fuji Monochrome Cameras
After years of requests, we are converting some of the Fuji XTrans color sensor cameras to monochrome. Fuji monochrome cameras can compare quite favorably to the Leica M but with higher performance in many respects and with a much lower price. Quality monochrome conversions are difficult, but for various technical reasons, the Fuji cameras are even more of a challenge.
Currently, we are offering the Fuji X100S-M and Fuji X-Pro1-M models and are expecting to add more models as we figure out the technical challenges for each new model.
A monochrome camera gains spatial resolution and greater microcontrast while it loses the color resolution. To demonstrate this, we to a Fuji X-Pro1 stock and X-Pro1 monochrome and using the same Fuji lens in automatic mode with the same settings on both cameras, we took a series of pictures. Below are 100% crops. The only adjustments were desaturating the color camera pictures and letting Photoshop do an automatic level on the channels.
